Radon Measurement

Radon levels or risk is one of the most important pieces of information you can learn about a property.

NSRB

We are certified radon measurement specialists by the National Radon Safety Board.

Fast, Accurate Testing

We use a Rad-7 from Durridge Corp. A certified, radon laboratory, it provides on-site readings during the inspection.

As part of our inspection process, the Rad-7 is set up to take measurements during the inspection, giving an immediate read-out. If levels appear elevated, or at the request of the client, the machine may be left for a 48 hour test. The conclusive result takes hourly measurements, with a high, low and standard deviation printout. It eliminates the inconvenient charcoal cannister tests which must be mailed away to a laboratory for processing and saves time.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Radon?

Radon is a naturally-occurring radioactive gas. Radon gas is inert, colorless and odorless. Radon is naturally in the atmosphere in trace amounts. Radon gas becomes trapped indoors after it enters buildings through cracks and other holes in the foundation.

What are the effects of Radon?

Breathing radon over time increases your risk of lung cancer. Radon is the second leading cause of lung cancer in the United States. Nationally, the EPA estimates that about 21,000 people die each year from radon-related lung cancer. Only smoking causes more lung cancer deaths.

How do you mitigate Radon, if it’s detected?

Testing is the only way to determine radon levels. EPA guidance suggests mitigating if levels are at or above 148 Becquerels/meter3 (4 picocuries/liter). Usually, radon problems are fixed using an underground ventilation system or by increasing the rate of air changes in the building.
